From what to wear to how to get home, here are a few DO’s and DON’Ts that will help make the day of your cataract surgery run smoothly: DO have your paperwork complete and any necessary prescriptions filled prior to surgery day, as you may need to start taking eye drops and medication prior to your appointment. DON’T eat or drink anything on the morning of your cataract surgery. If your doctor prescribed a medication, this can be taken with a small amount of water. DO dress comfortably. DON’T wear makeup, cosmetics, perfume, or jewelry. DO arrive at your scheduled time in case you have any last-minute questions. DON’T expect to go home immediately after the surgery. You will need to rest in a recovery area until you are less groggy from sedation or anesthesia. DO arrange for a ride, as you will not be able to drive home after the procedure DO wear sunglasses on the trip home to protect your eyes from bright light and glare. DON’T be surprised if your vision seems cloudy, blurry, wavy, or distorted after you first remove the eye shield. Red and bloodshot eyes are common, but should fade over the next couple days. DO prepare to rest once you are home. It is best not to plan any activities or events that day. These DO’s and DON’Ts will help things go as expected on your surgery day. Of course, if you have any questions at all, just let us know - we’re happy to help!
